Randomised controlled trial

Retatrutide Once Weekly for Treatment of Obstructive Sleep Apnea

Grunstein RR, Somers VK, Azarbarzin A, et al. New England Journal of Medicine 2026.

What it found

Two trials nested in TRIUMPH-1 (no diabetes, 243 people) and TRIUMPH-2 (type 2 diabetes, 448 people) in adults with moderate-to-severe sleep apnoea. Breathing interruptions fell by 31.7 to 34.3 events per hour on 9-12 mg vs 9.9 on placebo in the first trial, and by 24.7 to 25.4 vs 10.3 in the second. Gastrointestinal events were the most common side effects.

Limitations

Published online ahead of print in October 2026. The sleep apnoea groups of TRIUMPH-1 overlap with the TRIUMPH-1 main report. Funded and run by the developer.
