The inhibitory effect of Selank on enkephalin-degrading enzymes as a possible mechanism of its anxiolytic activity
Zozulya AA, Kost NV, Yu Sokolov O, et al. Bulletin of Experimental Biology and Medicine 2001;131:315-317.
What it found
Patients with generalised anxiety had a shorter enkephalin half-life in blood. In plasma, Selank blocked the breakdown of enkephalin, more potently than the enzyme inhibitors bacitracin and puromycin.
Limitations
Test-tube study using human plasma. Shows a possible mechanism, not an effect in people.
