The occurrence of putative cognitive enhancing research peptides in seized pharmaceutical preparations: An incentive for controlling agencies to prepare for future encounters of the kind

Vanhee C, Francotte A, Janvier S, et al. Drug Testing and Analysis 2020;12:371-381.

What it found

Two unknown preparations seized in Belgium in 2017 and 2018 turned out to contain Selank and Semax. An online search found these and similar "nootropic research peptides" freely sold as powders for injection and as nasal sprays. The lab developed a test that can detect 10 such peptides.

Limitations

Analytical study of a small number of seized samples. It shows these products circulate unregulated; it does not measure their purity across the market.
