The peptide semax affects the expression of genes related to the immune and vascular systems in rat brain focal ischemia: genome-wide transcriptional analysis
Medvedeva EV, Dmitrieva VG, Povarova OV, et al. BMC Genomics 2014;15:228.
What it found
Across the whole genome, Semax mainly increased the activity of immune-related genes (more than half of all genes it affected), including those for antibodies and chemokines, and changed genes linked to blood vessel formation.
Limitations
Rats only. Gene activity, not stroke size or recovery. From the Institute of Molecular Genetics, Moscow.
