Animal study

Thymosin beta4 activates integrin-linked kinase and promotes cardiac cell migration, survival and cardiac repair

Bock-Marquette I, Saxena A, White MD, et al. Nature 2004;432:466-472.

What it found

Full thymosin beta-4 formed a complex with PINCH and integrin-linked kinase (ILK), switching on the survival signal Akt. After coronary artery ligation in mice, it was followed by better heart-muscle-cell survival and heart function.

Limitations

Full protein, not the TB-500 fragment. Mice and cultured cells.
