A placebo-controlled, dose-ranging study of a growth hormone releasing factor in HIV-infected patients with abdominal fat accumulation
Falutz J, Allas S, Kotler D, et al. AIDS 2005;19:1279-1287.
What it found
IGF-1 rose 48% (1 mg) and 65% (2 mg) vs placebo. Trunk fat changed +0.8%, -4.6% and -9.2% (placebo, 1 mg, 2 mg); only 2 mg was significant. Visceral fat fell most with 2 mg (-15.7%) but not significantly vs placebo. Triglycerides fell with 2 mg; glucose did not change.
Limitations
Small, short phase 2 trial in people with HIV and central fat. The main visceral fat result was not statistically significant.
