Thymosin alpha1: isolation and sequence analysis of an immunologically active thymic polypeptide

Goldstein AL, Low TL, McAdoo M, et al. Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America 1977;74:725-729.

What it found

The authors isolated thymosin alpha-1 from calf thymus and determined its sequence: a heat-stable, highly acidic peptide of 28 amino acids, one of several in thymosin fraction 5 thought to be involved in the development and function of T lymphocytes.

Limitations

Laboratory chemistry study. Says what the molecule is, not what it does in patients.
