Insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I) analogue, LR(3)IGF-I, ameliorates the loss of body weight but not of skeletal muscle during food restriction
Tomas FM Growth Hormone & IGF Research 2001;11:92-103.
What it found
At every level of food intake, rats on LR3 kept slightly higher body weight (about 3-8%) and nitrogen retention, but muscle protein was not preserved. In adult rats, LR3 worsened the effects of food restriction on muscle, with more protein breakdown and less protein synthesis.
Limitations
Young (5-week) and adult (12-week) rats; one week only.
