Observational

Acute endurance exercise stimulates circulating levels of mitochondrial-derived peptides in humans

von Walden F, Fernandez-Gonzalo R, Norrbom J, et al. Journal of Applied Physiology 2021;131:1035-1042.

What it found

After one session of endurance cycling, blood levels of humanin rose and MOTS-c showed only a trend to rise. Resistance exercise did not change them. Blood levels were not related to fitness.

Limitations

Small groups of 10. Measures the body's own peptide, not the effect of giving it.
