MOTS-c peptide regulates adipose homeostasis to prevent ovariectomy-induced metabolic dysfunction

Lu H, Wei M, Zhai Y, et al. Journal of Molecular Medicine 2019;97:473-485.

What it found

In mice whose ovaries were removed (a model of menopause), MOTS-c was followed by less weight gain, less fat build-up and better insulin sensitivity, with more brown fat activity. Blocking AMPK reduced its effect on fat cells.
