Selective facilitation of sexual solicitation in the female rat by a melanocortin receptor agonist

Pfaus JG, Shadiack A, Van Soest T, et al. Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America 2004;101:10201-10204.

What it found

PT-141 increased solicitation behaviours in female rats without changing lordosis, pacing, other sexual behaviours, general activity or the rewarding effect of sex. The authors interpreted this as a selective effect on sexual motivation.

Limitations

Rats only. Rat solicitation is a model of desire, not a direct measure of it. Co-authored by Palatin staff.
