Tirzepatide for Heart Failure with Preserved Ejection Fraction and Obesity
Packer M, Zile MR, Kramer CM, et al. New England Journal of Medicine 2025;392:427-437.
What it found
In people with heart failure with preserved ejection fraction and obesity, cardiovascular death or worsening heart failure occurred in 9.9% vs 15.3% on placebo (hazard ratio 0.62), driven by fewer heart-failure events. Symptom scores improved more with tirzepatide. Cardiovascular deaths were few and not reduced (8 vs 5).
Limitations
Relatively small for an outcome trial, with few events. Side effects led to stopping in 6.3% vs 1.4%.
