What it found
In SURMOUNT-1 participants who also had prediabetes, weight change at 176 weeks was -12.3% (5 mg), -18.7% (10 mg) and -19.7% (15 mg) vs -1.3% with placebo. Type 2 diabetes was diagnosed in 1.3% vs 13.3% on placebo; 17 weeks after stopping, 2.4% vs 13.7% had diabetes.
Limitations
Subgroup of a larger trial. The short off-treatment period cannot show whether the lower diabetes risk lasts.
